OSCOM v3.0 Framework Optimized For PHP v5.3

Last question: Does V3 use MyISAM or InnoDB? If it uses InnoDB, it should take advantage of the primary indexes (surrogate keys), see article: http://bit.ly/abpuZH this would be a great performance boost.

No other libraries will be integrated at this time.
Thanks for the InnoDB tip. For related reading, also refer to http://blogs.oscommerce.com/2009/06/18/ensuring-database-integrity-with-foreign-keys/

The installation will be wrapped inside an "oscommerce" directory however the bootstrap index.php, public directory, and "osCommerce/OM" directory can reside anywhere on the server - it is recommended to move the "osCommerce/OM" directory outside of the public_html directory.
The directory structure will look like:
oscommerce/index.php - bootstrap
oscommerce/public - images, stylesheets, javascript, etc..
oscommerce/osCommerce/OM - core framework
Kind regards,
Thanks Harald, that clears it up quite a bit! One other small question regarding the product images. The current v2.2 stores all product images in the main images directory. We've found once you get into the hundreds or thousands of products that directory becomes quite heavy and takes a really long time to even display the contents when you have to ftp in to upload new images or make adjustments. Our solution has been to rewrite the code so all of the product images are stored in their own directory aside from the rest of the images, like this images/products . Not a huge issue, but I thought I'd share our experience with running a larger store so maybe a simple solution like this or a more advanced one of your creation may be included in v3.0?

@ HomeWetBar - there's a current contrib for 2.2 RC1 & 2 that adds a couple of fields to the create product page and database, which allows you to add new sub-directories on the fly while creating new products or editing existing ones. It's a fairly quick and simple install and works perfectly (I use it on all my sites).
Wish I could remember its name , but it's eluding me.

Sometimes it's useful to not have the cheapest shipping method selected automatically. In 2.2 this behavior cannot be configured, so it would be nice if it could be in v3.

Could you say about something "manufacturers" conception?
(At this moment in V3alfa5 I see attributes module for it, but in the database tables i.e. osc_products table I find manufaturers_id. I think when data will store in attributes table the manufacturers_id more dangerous, than use in a conventional pruducts table. If the user admin uninstall manufacturers module attributes every relevant data will be lost!)
I wonder for it. I'm coding a better product listing, but at this moment I lost the way. We need for manufacturers in products listing but how?
Thanks,
Gergely

Projects with a following such as osCommerce need to spend nothing .. professional designers would respond to a "competition" with the winner template getting pride of place and the "professional designer" the notoriety attached.

Like most other suggestions to the development team, that good idea will also be ignored.

Well tbh Chris it doesn't matter to me as I am a PHP developer not a designer. ( I use designers but don't do it myself ).
I think previously with the "old" oscommerce that the subject wasn't really relevent given the complexity of creating a theme for osCommerce .. the new system will allow "plug in" templates which I am certain will deliver up a whole new contribution area of templates, a new revenue stream for the osCommerce team and I'd be amazed if they didn't capitalise on it.

The current default template, which is a CSS based v2.2 template, will definitely not be part of v3.0; meaning v3.0 will have a new design to match the new framework.

I don't know what to do, Should I go and learn a new shopping cart solution (OpenCart, Magentoo) or do I wait for osC 3.0.
If osC 3.0 is around the corner and is just a few weeks away, then I can wait, but if it is going to take 6 months from now, then I have to use another shopping cart solution.
Can hpdl or any other core deveolper shine some light here please.
Thanks in advance.
