So we run a large store and noticed our order volume drop significantly over the last couple of days. We did a test run through our site and noticed that checkout_shipping.php times out 90% of the time.

We are currently using USPS Methods v4.3.2 and some rates will actually display about 10% of the time. Is USPS's server acting up? Has anyone else noticed this?

When we enable flat rates and disable USPS Methods checkout_shipping.php returns to normal functionality.

I remember this happening with the last rate updates.

Yea mine is now acting slow today. But it was working fine up until half way through the day.

For me, the reason that USPS does not respond is either the USPS server is slow or my host's server gets a php mail() function error and it makes something within the USPS module hang. Hopefully its USPS because they always fix their issue before my host can ever fix theirs.

I ran some tests (replaced the email address user@localhost.com includes/modules/shipping/usps.php with my email) and noticed that USPS was sending back partial data. Some responses in fact took over 15 minutes to receive. This happens with both Domestic and International Addresses. Looks like the server is acting up

Although I'm a member here, I run an X-Cart based store and there is definitely a problem with USPS Real Time API. We've seen some intermittent problems over the last couple of weeks, but it became a real problem yesterday morning and it has not been resolved yet. I've been in touch with the post office web support and they are maintaining it is just an X-Cart issue as they've "not heard from anyone else but X-Cart people." For those of you that would like to back up what we're experiencing, you can call them at 800-344-7779, option 3 to get to tech support. As far as they're concerned, their systems are working normally. Tell them what is going on as they're doing nothing to fix it now!

We've been having problems since yesterday with the USPS response times as well -- when we called this morning, we were informed there were no problems with the USPS system. Grrr.

On the updside, we're getting speedier responses on our test site at the moment from USPS, and debating turning it back on for the live sites.

Don't know what they did, but it's back up to speed as of about half an hour ago. Before that, I was getting multiple fsock errors.

It does look like the servers are back to "normal".
