Really? I don't think so...

I have been working with PHP MySQL and osCommerce 2 specifically for over 3 years now. So don't think this post has anything to do with my inability to make something work...

But 3a5 was supposed to be production-stable and supported.

I've had an OUT OF THE BOX problem with the PayPal IPN module that I posted on about WEEKS ago...

A) If this was a production-stable release it would have worked fine.
B) If this was supported someone would have helped me with it.

I have undefined index errors all over the place, the admin panel craps out all over the place dealing with products.
Images won't even upload and convert....

If this was proeduction-stable that would not be the case...

The USPS Shipping module is throwing undefined index errors at me...

If this was production-stable this would not be the case...

The last update to v3 was in MAY of this year.... Its now DECEMBER...

I don't mean to sound like an ungrateful prick, I know osCommerce is free and all.

But
1) Ponce doesn't allow people to help him.

2) I've offered to pay to get things fixed and implemented multiple times.

3) Typically projects on the scale of osCommerce are run by a group of people, not just one person who does things as he finds the time.

osCommerce 3 is a great leap forward from osCommerce 2, but it is no where near "production-stable" and I'd say claiming that it was "supported" is laughable at best...

If there is someone that has manged to wrap their head around osCommerce 3 and will help me get these stores up and running in an ACTUAL "production-stable" manner, I will be happy to pay a reasonable rate.

This is just lunacy though. The most likely to be used payment module has something wrong with is.... production-stable my arse.

If I can't get both of these stores up within the week, I'm going to end up having to just install something else, and never visit osCommerce again, and I don't want to see that happen.

Again, I -will- pay someone a reasonable rate to get these two stores up and running.

Harald was supporting it for a while after release, but not now it seems!!

There are some here that insist it is ready, & others that say not, but it seems that those that say it is don't have time to support.

Its been detailed here many times why most of us don't use it/support it, yet.

I agree its odd that Harald is reluctant to widen his team, why is there still only one mod here!!! and team members that never visit!!

From Harold's own post:

"osCommerce Online Merchant v3.0 Alpha 5 is the first release using Git to attract an even greater wave of developers to help with the development of add-ons and core framework improvements. Git is a distributed version control system which allows developers to clone and create branches on their own local development machines."

Doesn't do any good to put it on the best community development system in the world, if none of the contributions/fixes/etc don't find their way back to the source :-/

And I'm not joking, I -will- pay someone to fix these two stores...

They are both stock unmodified code on the same server...

Its just crazy that it doesn't work... *sigh*

My advice, continue to use V2.2 RC2a for live stores. I have closely monitored and tested V3.0 and found it no where close to be ready for actual use.

Interested to know what your opinion is now ?

OSC3 ready for production use ?

I'm still using V2 but looking at upgrading.

Hi Sol..

The framework is ready - we are now readying the remaining user features.

Please take a look at v3.0.2 to see the direction we are going in. The upcoming v3.0.3 release will introduce the Admin Products Application, and is a simple one-click upgrade through CoreUpdate.

Kind regards,

Hello Harold, congrats on all the improvements.
I hope OSC3 can become the king of carts once again :-)
I'm sure it's been a tough road for you.
