Hi Geoffrey..

I spent ages gathering together useful threads, links etc that I had found really useful as I learnt about osc and put them in the "About Me" page so anyone accessing my profile could use them.

Are these going to be transferred over or is there anyway to retrieve them as I still used to refer to it regularly?

I don't know the cause but during the backend parsing of the profile content, some of the About Me content was reset. This happened to my profile as well.

Kind regards,

So, we have a new forum, and hopefully after the past few months, a revitalised vision of where osCommerce needs to go in the future.

Might I suggest that it is time to sack some of the "team members"? Some haven't logged in to this forum in months. Get people on board who are able to spend time daily on osCommerce - even just 15 minutes per day answering a few questions, deleting spam, being visible! The only ones right now is yourself, and Jan (who does a great job btw).
Email received which made me laugh: Im looking for a master. Every great hero had a master, Superman had his father, Jor-L, Luke Skywalker had Obi Wan, The Turtles had Master Shredder, Batman also had his father, Bruce Wayne, and most important of all, Rodney had Delboy.

Hi All..

This forum has been upgraded today to the new IP.Board v3 series! This newer version greatly enhances community involvement and profiles over the previous version, and makes it easier for the team to moderate the forum. This upgrade allows us to push out further enhancements to community profiles in the near future based on the IP.Converge software used as a single-sign-on service.

A blogging entry will be posted in the coming days describing our plans on further enhancing community profiles.

If you are experiencing quirks with the forum, please make sure to clear your browser cache and try reproducing the problem again. It would be great if you could report back with your experiences of this upgrade.

Thanks, we're looking forward to your feedback!

Kind regards,

I think major contributors should have their own forum - not just one gigantic thread for each add-on.
I think we need a standardized way of controlling contributions.
Some of them are all willy nilly.

Links to topics don't work with new format. Posted Image

I`ve noticed that when creating a link to a topic, using the new style:

http://forums.oscomm...om/topic/xxxxxx

will fail but using the old style

http://forums.oscomm...howtopic=xxxxxx

will be fine.

It seems the new style only works if the topic title is included in the url, should we stick to the old style, or will this be altered?

Hi Sam..

I don't know why /topic/346200 does not work. Interestingly, /topic/346200-blah-blah works with an incorrect topic title.Perhaps this will be fixed in a future forum software update.

Kind regards,

Hi All..

The forum software has been updated again to the latest minor update release and should show a further noticeable improvement with the performance.

http://forums.oscomm...m/topic/346200- also works. It looks like it needs the trailing hyphen. It does not need the title, just the hyphen.

When I put a   in a code block, it gets eaten. Example:
Before After
There should be a   in between Before and After (so it should look like Before After). However, when I preview/post, it shows as "Before After". There's a flash where it looks correct before it changes (which lasts longer if you reload the page). That leads me to suspect an issue in the syntax highlighting Javascript.

This happens in both IE8 and Firefox 3.5.

I have a suggestion, would it be feasable to automatically delete, or put on hold/probation, any posts that are duplicates of other posts by the same user, might cut down on spam etc.

This is a confirmed bug which will be fixed in a future update of the forum software.

Another suggestion!, when code that contains no line breaks is placed in a code block, it produces a very wide post thats hard to read, why not simply use wordwrap to ensure those code blocks are a more reasonable width. Posted Image

Some thoughts on the new forum layout.
======================================

When I come on the site I want to see the questions so I can select the ones I can answer and get to them quickly.
To do this I use the view new posts option (I have still to find an option for last x days)

Everything is off the bottom of the screen, using a portable pc I can only see 2 threads when I view the forum.

Space is taken up by sponsor advertising across the entire page. Then even more to tell me I am on the New Content page and there are 54 entries.

By this time over half the screen is full.

Then I have Page navigation and a repeat of menu tabs at the top of the page and over 3/4 of the page is full.

Then each thread takes 2 lines with a blank line above and below each one. Most of each "thread" line is blank and could easily be all on one line.

I also miss the name of the person who posted the thread as there are some Help Vampires who I avoid like the plague.

Since the new forum was installed the amount of time I spend on the forum has dropped dramatically and I must admit I now support other packages on other sites.

How fickle am I?

Any chance of getting more info on the visible page and the name of the original poster?

I agree with your comments Gary, though i feel its far more Jan than anyone else keeping the forum clear of scum and bad posts, HPLD has also been busy with "other stuff".

The other moderators i have never seen on here ... EVER!
Perhaps Moderators should not be team members but dedicated to maintaining the forums only?

Another bug, presumably in the forum software. I type b) in a code block with emoticons on and get:
B)
If I turn off emoticons (which I've done for this post), it works. Apparently the code block correctly blocks the B) from displaying as the sunglasses emoticon, but it does not prevent the standardization from b) to B) for the emoticon.

You can see this in action at http://forums.oscomm...er-of-products/

I noticed my PM space getting full but I couldn't find where to archive them. Looks like this is missing from the new software although it looks like it can be added:

The reputation is a idea that should be binned, what are we being scored on?
Its not Ebay yet on here!
I notice some one had given Jan a minus 1, i do not think its a good idea at all.

I think I'm at +1 at the moment but of course I can't please everyone so disgruntled members can be expected :)

I don't have a clue about how this reputation thing will work out. Maybe we should give it a chance?
