In the "old style" there was a "my controls" page with the option to store some small text. I was storing there url's to interesting forum topics. I could not find them again. Is there any chance to get this option back?

Could you check if it is in the Settings -> Manage Notes section?

Add: Do we have a longer window now to edit a post? It was really annoying to not be able to edit a post a few minutes later. I can understand not permitting modification of really old posts, but please give us a reasonable amount of time to fix something we realized we forgot to add, or a typo.

The time to edit a post has remained at 15 minutes.

I miss the My Add-Ons link. Will it be coming back? Particularly since it seems that URLs are not allowed in signatures at all, at least I kept getting an error when I tried to add a link to my add-ons page.

The My Add-Ons and My Shop links will be coming back soon.

I also miss the My Interview link, but since that seems to have been unused for the last five years (i.e. no new interviews), I can understand if you deprecated it.

The reviews section is going to be replaced with something new and radical :-)

The CODE and QUOTE blocks in older posts aren't working properly (they show the word CODE or QUOTE follewed by the text, without the different background, etc.). This makes the posts hard to read. This is especially a problem in the Tips & Tricks forum.

Part of the forum software upgrade is the requirement to parse all content (postings, personal discussions, profiles, ..). The only remaining part to finish this is the parsing of the forum postings, with the backend process now taking care of the last 50,000 postings. Another 1-2 hours to finish this off and the performance of the forum should return to normal.

Harald Ponce de Leon

Hi All..

The backend processing is now complete and the forum performance is back to normal! :)

Thanks for putting up with the dismal performance during this task.

Email received which made me laugh: Im looking for a master. Every great hero had a master, Superman had his father, Jor-L, Luke Skywalker had Obi Wan, The Turtles had Master Shredder, Batman also had his father, Bruce Wayne, and most important of all, Rodney had Delboy.

Hi All..

A new My Add-Ons icon is now shown below the authors avatar when viewing a topic. A more exciting update has been made on the members profile with a new Add-Ons tab that shows the newest 5 add-ons that member has worked on.

Enjoy! :)

FYI, search results are not working as expected. Clicking the link in your search results (the topic title with the "View Result" on mouseover) takes you to the wrong page within the topic. So searching has become a nightmare. The only way to actually get to a post from search results is to note the date of the reply, click the link and back up/go forward through the topic until you reach the date of the post. That kind of kills the whole concept of finding answers to one's questions!

Hopefully that will be fixed soon?

Hi Mark..

When I click on a search result topic title, I get taken straight to that posting within the topic even if it is positioned on page 5 of the whole topic.

This occurs for me as expected with the simple and with the advanced search results.

Maybe it is only on topics brought over from the old forum? Try this:

1. Go to http://forums.oscomm...showtopic=70365

2. Search the topic for STORE_SESSIONS

3. Note the date/time for any of the results and click the topic title for that result

I see the first result as:

Multi-Stores Multiple Shops Support
I'm having trouble here. With a vanilla osc (as recommended)...

osCommerce Online Merchant v2.x > Contributions / Add-Ons > General Contribution Support 1,467 replies

When I click on the topic title, I get taken here:

http://forums.oscomm...0&#entry1436900

which is a page of posts starting in March 2009, way off from the page where that post actually is:

Or are we both missing it?

An answer would have been nice, even if it was - It's gone, it isn't coming back so stop whinging. Thanks Harald!

My position was something along the lines of "I don't know - I'll take a look when I get time and get back to you on it".

I did investigate and found a possible solution for you. When viewing a forum channel, at the bottom there is a bar that displays "Click here to show filter options". When this is activated you have the possibility to filter the topic listing, eg listing only topics you have replied to.

Hope that helps!

Your method produced results matching your enquiry and seems to be a bug of the forum software. I'll forward this to InvisionPower so they can fix it in the next release of their forum software.

I see we got the missing emoticons back.

Overall the performance seems to still be slower, but I'll take what I can get.

Here's a few things I noticed that I'm wondering about:

- In the PM section, once a message has been replied to, it cannot be replied to again. Sometimes I want to reference an old PM but can't do that now without copy/pasting into a new PM. Can that be changed?

- There doesn't seem to be any way to find previous messages if you don't have any information to search for. For example, I knew this thread existed but had no way of finding it. I was able to in this case since I knew Harold had posted so I reached it through his posts. In the old system, there was an option at the bottom of the page to show previous posts. I could click on that and go back through to find such a message.

- Links in posts now open in the same window, as opposed to opening in a new window as before. I know I can shift-click to have it open, and I will get used to that eventually, but it would be nice not to have to do that.

- If you click on the My Contributions link in my signature, you'll see Email Encoder as one of my contributions. But if you click on my My Addons icon, it's not listed. I only mention this since, if the code is missing this one, it is probably missing others.

this is perhaps due to the new standard used: it is now XHTML 1.0 Strict, which does not allow target="_blank" tag. W3C states that it wants to give the decision back to the surfer whether to open a link in same window/tab or new window/tab. although using javascript may achieve this, is it not over the top as far as the IP BB developers are concerned? - just a thought...

Hi

Thanks for sorting out the problems I reported earlier.

I spent ages gathering together useful threads, links etc that I had found really useful as I learnt about osc and put them in the "About Me" page so anyone accessing my profile could use them.

Are these going to be transferred over or is there anyway to retrieve them as I still used to refer to it regularly?

Cheers

G

PS Have you tried to find the documentation pages from the forum? Good thing I knew the old site or would never have found it.

G

<b>IMPORTANT SECURITY PATCH FOR EXISTING AND NEW SITES (18/07/90). Follow the steps outlined at <a href="http://forums.oscommerce.com/index.php?showtopic=340995" target="_blank">SECURITY</a>.</b><br /><br />Hi<br />
<br />You may have noticed I answer quite a lot of questions on the forum, or I did when I wrote this, so first a plea, post your questions in the forum or see the comments in my Personal Statement. <br /><br />Most of the answers I give can be found by searching the forum, so whenever you get stuck, use google and use a search term like<br /><br />site:forums.oscommerce.
com xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx<br /><br />in the google search box. Or read this link <a href="http://forums.oscommerce.com/index.php?showtopic=222140" target="_blank"><a href='http://forums.oscommerce.com/index.php?showtopic=222140' class='bbc_url' title='External link' rel='nofollow'>http://forums.oscomm.
..howtopic=222140</a></a><br /><br />

Here are some links to answers and other info I have found useful.<br /><br />The first one is a roadmap for newbies by lindsayanng which gives a good overview of osc.<br /><br /><a href="http://forums.oscommerce.com/index.php?showtopic=307356&amp;hl=" target="_blank"><a href='http://forums.oscommerce.com/index.php?sho...=307356&amp;hl=' class='bbc_url' title='External link' rel='nofollow'>http://forums.

</a><br /><br />If you want to install osc and are stuck<br /><br />1. Create a blank database via your web hosting control panel. Each contol panel is different and your host's help desk or faqs should be able to help<br /><br />2. Download the latest osCommerce 2.2 RC2A zip file from the downloads section of www.oscommerce.com to your pc, unzip it. You will use the 'catalog' folder but it is worth browsing through the others.<br /><br />3. If you want your shop's URL to be www.yourdomain.com/catalog then upload the whole of the catalog folder to the root directory of your website via FTP. If you want the site to be available at www.yourdomain.com then just upload all of the contents of the catalog folder to the root directory of your website, but not the folder itself.<br /><br />4. Make sure that the permissions on all of the folders are set to 755, and if that does not work then set them to 777 and consider chaging host as you will get hacked. Make sure that the includes/configure.php file and the admin/includes/configure.php file are set to 777. These need to be restricted later. <br /><br />5. Then go to <a href="http://www.yourdomain.com/catalog/install" target="_blank"><a href='http://www.yourdomain.com/catalog/install' class='bbc_url' title='External link' rel='nofollow'>http://www.yourdomai.
..catalog/install</a></a> or <a href="http://www.yourdomain.com/install" target="_blank"><a href='http://www.yourdomain.com/install' class='bbc_url' title='External link' rel='nofollow'>http://www.yourdomain.
com/install</a></a> and follow the on-line install procedure. You will be prompted to enter various pieces of information.<br /><br />5a. Set DB Server to 'localhost', If that doesn't work there may be different db server settings which your host might have told you or it is somewhere on the control panel after you have created the db e.g. db_name.db.999999.hostedserver.
com<br /><br />5.b Your db user name and password (for mysql access) should have been provided to you by your web hosting company but you might have created and new name and password in step 1. <br /><br />5.c The name of the database you should know - because you just set it up. <br /><br />5.d Do not enable SSL unless you already have it installed or intend to shortly, elect to store sessions in the database and not files (untick the box), and do not enable persistent connections.<br /><br />6. After the install is complete create a folder called 'backups' inside the 'admin' folder (via FTP), and delete the install folder. <br /><br />6a. IMPORTANT STEP FOR EXISTING AND NEW SITES (18/07/90). Follow the steps outlined at <a href="http://forums.oscommerce.com/index.php?showtopic=340995" target="_blank">SECURITY</a>.<br /><br />7. Reset permissions on the two configure.php files to 644, 444, or 400 depending on your server setup.<br /><br />8. Password Protect your 'admin' folder using the Password Protect feature in your web hosting control panel.<br /><br />Once you have it installed the first 2 threads in the installation forum covers how to do loads of basic things.<br /><br /><a href="http://forums.oscommerce.com/index.php?showforum=1" target="_blank"><a href='http://forums.oscommerce.com/index.php?showforum=1' class='bbc_url' title='External link' rel='nofollow'>http://

<br /><br />Also the documentation that comes with the download of your version of osc will be a good first stop or if it is not on your server, download a new copy of your version and read that<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://www%20.%20osCommerce-template-Easy%20.%20com" target="_blank">Video Tutorials</a> and a free template editor.<br /><br /><br />File relationships diagram :- <a href="http://oscommerce-reference.swisscart.com/nav.html?oscommerce-2.2ms2-060817/tep_database-pr2.2-CVS.pdf.html" target="_blank"><a href='http://oscommerce-reference.swisscart.com/....2-CVS.pdf.html' class='bbc_url' title='External link' rel='nofollow'>http://oscommerce-re.

Hi Jack..

There doesn't seem to be any way to find previous messages if you don't have any information to search for. For example, I knew this thread existed but had no way of finding it. I was able to in this case since I knew Harold had posted so I reached it through his posts. In the old system, there was an option at the bottom of the page to show previous posts. I could click on that and go back through to find such a message.

There's an icon next to the author name that brings up a panel showing more information about the author. The link to view their previous posts is available there. I've copied this link so it's also available in the author information shown together with the post made.

If you click on the My Contributions link in my signature, you'll see Email Encoder as one of my contributions. But if you click on my My Addons icon, it's not listed. I only mention this since, if the code is missing this one, it is probably missing others.

That's due to that add-on being uploaded before the login requirement was put into affect, and thus no relationship existing between that add-on and your profile. This can be seen here nicely here:

http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/1999

versus one of your recent add-ons:

http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/4441

where the add-on is attached to your profile.

If you would like a relationship to exist between older add-ons and your profile, e-mail me the list of add-ons and I'll get those updated.

Kind regards,
