HUH?? the two things are completely unrelated.. showing a specific product on the front page is something like STAR PRODUCT contribution, but the SEO contribution some something ENTIRELY different. that is more of a backend contribution that makes it easier for search engines to crawl your site

You can change the NEW PRODUCTS for FEATURED PRODUCT or  SPECIALS

That's probably why I couldn't find it when I looked!  I don't know why I thought they were related.

Thanks man!  I'll look at the links you sent.

Hey guys,

Does anyone know why my site has different colors on different computers??  I just looked at my site on another computer and all the red and black background and the left and right columns and the header background appear white, plus the links are all "default blue".  On mine, they're red and black/grey!  Both computers I looked at are on Internet Explorer, and it looks OK on my computer in Firefox.  What do you guys see?  We did try changing the display options, etc. but it made no difference.  I'm hoping it's just some setting on the other computer...

Thanks for looking!

Hi Nicole,

All ok on my PC. It sounds like the PC with blue links has activated the Accessibility features from the IE tools menu which overides all web style sheets.

Try looking at another site on the dodgy PC that you know the look of and see if that has blue links too... this will confirm.

Maybe it's discussed in this topic somewhere and I just missed it, but you have no meta tags:

Without them about the only way for someone to find your shop is to search for it by domain name.

Well damn!  Do I put them on the index page?  I think I tried to do it once but apparently my mission was aborted at some point.

Thanks for checking that!

Well, you can just add them manually, but most people here will tell you to use a contribution that adjusts them with the page contents.

I think I used the one called Easy Meta-tags.

But, even static ones that don't change would be better than none at all.
;)

And yes, the <head> section of the main index.php would be the place to add them.

I looked at the contrib, downloaded it, and then chickened out like I always do, so I added them manually.

Can you see them now?

You rock!  Thank you thank you

I just googled myself (hehe) well, actually my products, and I am so far down on the list that I think the only way people will ever find me is by searching the domain name anyway.  Well, except for the cufflinks.  But who wants cufflinks?  No one, so far!  haha

Thanks Carbon.  I mentioned that and he's gonna check it.  Even the credit card icons on the Paypal site don't show up on his screen...  That makes no sense to me, but I'm glad it's not something I need to change!

Cheers,

your site is looking clean and for me it loads quite fast. I think the photos sre excellent...do you do them yourself?

If so can you give me a few tips as I have a jewellery websit in production { no competition} but I am having major problems with the lighting and back ground colour.

woops...  edit...

Thanks...

No, alas, I cannot figure out how to figure out how to get pics that nice either.  Looks like they used a white background with a little reflectiveness...reflectivity...  reflectivation... anyway (although they may have added that in, but why would you?).  My mom is an excellent photographer though (not pro, but she takes really good pics), and I haven't had a chance to get her to try with my handmade stuff yet, so if I do get it figured out I'll post it on here.

I posted this question on the Chit-Chat section, but this one seems much busier...   I'll go see if I can get rid of the other one.

Can anyone tell me if I can change my user name on here?  I don't want it to be the same as my store name but I wouldn't mind keeping this thread for reference, etc...

Thanks,
Nicole

I can give you some tips on how to take a good photo of jewelery without getting glare, reflection, and other nasties in there.

Basically, DONT USE A FLASH..

The key is to get a good point and shoot with a macro setting and ISO settings. I suggest a Canon SD750 or higher (thats what i have) Then you just adjust the settings, set it to MACRO and then turn the flash off, and the ISO  down.. The ISO adjusts the shutter speed and the amount of light it takes in.. so this way you get a clear picture with no flash, but it doesnt look dark. If you have a nicely well lit room, then you can probably play with the ISO and turn it up as high as you can without getting blurr. See, the lower the ISO the more grainy the picture, but the less blur from movement.. So you want it as high as you can go without getting the blur.. If you can get a tripod to take the picture, the better it is for you..

You should also you a matte finish paper for the background. I prefer white backgrounds, as it makes the item really pop.. But black contruction paper works ok too. Contruction paper does have a little texture, so its best to just use plain white copy paper..

I hope this helps.. Just rememvber to NEVER use a flash on anything reflective.. it will not work well for you in any way.. the natural light reflecting from in the room should be more than enough if you have the right settings

Thanks for the tips Lindsay!  I'll make sure I have your message open when I try taking my own pics!  Hopefully my mom knows what the heck you're talking about...     (Still no hat...)

So I got my user name changed, it's still me, but my name is "steelthings" now.  Thank you Harald!

Hello wise people...  It's close to Christmas and my site is live, so this seems like the perfect time to start monkeying about with my index pages.

I've pointed my site right to my catalog (catalog/index.php), but now I want to change it so it goes to the www.steelsomething.com and I'll have an intro page so they can click to the categories.  The reason is that Firefox makes me allow it to redirect to the catalog when I just type in the .com address

I tried putting my old index page back under the .com folder, but it still goes to the catalog, except when I type in steelsomething.ca, then it went to the intro page.  (I've since put it back, so .ca now goes to the catalog too, in case anyone is going to check)

I bought a dedicated IP address, so everything is pointing all around everywhere in the cpanel domains section.

Do I just have to change the index pages (somewhere) to get the link to the index page out, or will I have to change the Domains section in my cpanel too?  (Like the A records, etc.)

Here is the link...  If anyone uses Firefox, can you tell me if it stops it from re-directing?

My Site

Thanks for any input,

Nicole
