I am new to the ecommerce community and have recently purchased a CRE-Loaded template. I am very close to lauching my online store, and thought adding FL surtax information would be relatively easy. However, it is turning out to be a monster of a project - and I am afraid that I will not be able to open-shop on the date I planned.

My question is 2-fold: 1) FL like other states has well over 50 counties that charge surtax. I noticed in my address book area on my site, it does not provide a place to note the county, is there an add on that can add the county to the address book? 2)Is there an add-on that can upload the surtax information to your system (or does this have to be done manually)?

One more question: What is the difference between Zone, Tax Zone and Tax Rate. I noticed the zone listings countries. How does a Zone relate to a Tax Zone which the corresponds to a Tax Rate?

As you can see I'm quite confused. Any help clarifying things for me would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Dude, just add the county and state tax together. In my county, I also do business in Florida, the sales tax rate is 7%. I am actually going to meet with an accountant soon, and I'll ask to be 110%, but in the end when you report the Sales and Use, the worst thing that could happen is that you did not collect enough, and it comes out of your pocket.

Cheers!

Thanks for your help. However, after reading my posting I realized I might not have been clear with my question. I understand and do combine the state and surtax. The problem is that depending on the "County" the buyer lives in, I have to charge them their county surtax. Florida base sales tax is 6%. Howver, Miami-Dade County Surtax is 1%, totaling 7% I need to charge for Miami-Dade county residents. Broward county charges only the base 6% and so on for each county. So the tax I am required to collect varies.

The CRE-Loaded template I have asks for zones, which I could enter as counties, but the address book in the My Account section does not have a place for a customer to enter their county. I thought of just charging a base tax (7%) and hoping to break even...but I understand this is against the law.

Is there a way to resolve this issue?
