Obviously every customer inserts an e-mail address when they order something and then they are sent the 'Order Processed' and 'Item Delivered' e-mails.

I was thinking of manually adding each customers e-mail address to newsletter and e-mailing them twice a year with various updates and special offers.

Would you say that is a bad idea?

I wish the 'Purchase without account' module had a 'opt-in' to a newsletter tick box

Is there an way to e-mail customers automatically when a new product is added?

Sending newsletters to the customers who chose to opt in during sign up is a good marketing technique. When they selected the checkbox, they were expressing an interest in receiving them. osc has built in functionality to support this. One important step is to always include a reminder of why they are receiving the newsletter and instructions on how they can be removed from the mailing list.

However sending them to everybody that buys from you could get your site's IP address on a block list. When this happens many of the major ISP's will block all of your email. Your web host may even drop you if it ends up affecting other sites on their server.

Regarding the PWA contribution, part of the whole point of it is to let the customer buy with the feeling that their personal information isn't being stored for future use. So it definitely wouldn't be a good idea to send newsletters to them.
