I have a merchant account to process orders from one of my sites. I'm now building several other sites to market related products and wanted to use my original merchant account. I discussed this with Authorizenet and they said no problem. Discussed it with my merchant services provider and they stated that I would have to acquire an account for each site in accordance with "Federal Law".
Is this true or am I being scammed?

I am not totally sure on this matter, however if you had a partnership or other corporation that owned the sites, then I would think it would be fine to use as the main company.
I would do a little juggling with the provider stating the Authorize.net rep (if applicable) I talked with, and that they have no problem conforming to my needs. If it is a scam, the matter could be reversed simply by doing this.
Good luck
