I feel the checkout process for the latest version of OSC is a little lengthy and unnecessary. Maybe thats just me but cvan anyone recommend a faster checkout process contribution - I only take PayPal payments.

Thanks.

Certain parts of the Create Account procedure can be turned off in your 'admin' panel under Customer Details e.g. d.o.b, gender, company, suburb, state.

You could use the Payment Without Account contribution - but this takes just as long to travel through (as a customer) as it does to just create an account in the first place.

You could use my Custom Create Account Page contribution - which will allow you to turn On or Off all aspects of the Create Account page except for Name, E-mail Address and Password. But the problem is that if you don't collect the information and pass it to PayPal then the customer will still have to fill in certain fields when they get there e.g. Street Address, City, Post Code.

You can eliminate 2 pages of the checkout pretty easily.
First, install the 'Log in on Create Account' contribution, so that when a customer clicks on the 'checkout' button form the shopping cart page, they skip past the 'log in' page. Also, you can eliminate the 'create account success' page.

That reduces the checkout from 8 pages to 6, but a 6 click checkout is still crazy, IMO. I'd like to see it get down to about 3, from product_info page to checkout confirmation.

NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit.
If you have a question about any of my posts here, your best bet is to contact me though either Email or PM in my profile, and I'll be happy to help.

Thanks guys. I will look into your suggestions.

I read an article a couple of months ago in the new york times where studies came to the conclusion that for every extra page of checkout there was, 3% of customers left for various reasons.

3% may not seem like a lot but think about every extra page there is!
