Forum Rules

The osCommerce Community Support Forums is a public service made available to allow community members to help each other in starting and developing their online business endeavors. As this community consists of hundreds and thousands of store owners, developers, and enthusiasts worldwide, all community members are required to abide by a set of rules to keep the atmosphere in a positive manner.

If you have any questions or suggestions regarding the forum rules, please forward your feedback to an osCommerce team member.

We thank you for your interest in the osCommerce Community and look forward to your participation!

General Rules

The information exchanged on the osCommerce Community Support Forums must relate to a product or service osCommerce is providing. If you have a problem with a solution or service osCommerce does not provide, please refer to the relevant support of the solution or service provider involved.

Commercial postings and linking to external sites providing osCommerce related products and services are not allowed on the osCommerce Community Support Forums. If you wish to present a commercial solution or service to the community please consider participating in the osCommerce Corporate Sponsorship program.

Sending unsolicited messages to community members, either publicly or privately via PM or e-mail, is not allowed. Any "spamming" activities reported by community members could lead to bannings of the accounts involved.

The primary function of the osCommerce Community Support Forums is for information exchange. Postings requesting paid support or offerings of paid support are not allowed. Please consult with the osCommerce team for information on commercial services available.

Additional guidelines may exist in a forum channel and are an extension to the main osCommerce Community Support Forum rules. These additional guidelines should be read before posting to the channel for the first time.

Posting

Before posting about a problem you are experiencing please search the forums for related postings which may help you further. If the problem you are experiencing is reproduceable with a stock/default osCommerce installation please also search the Bug Reports for possible answers to your problem. If a solution is not found then please submit a bug report, or if you are unsure then please post about the problem to the forums.

Postings should be made in the appropriate forum channel and should have a descriptive subject line. Topics with subject lines such as "HELP!!!" or "It doesn't work" will generally be ignored by community members who may otherwise be able to assist.

Cross-Posting, or posting the same content in multiple forum channels, is not allowed. If you have accidently posted in the wrong forum channel please send a request to a forum moderator to move it to the appropriate channel.

Bumping postings to the top of the forum channel listing, made to get more attention to the post, is not allowed. When no one has replied to a posting you have made it is recommended to reply in the same thread with more information that may help in resolving the issue.

Please remember that community members are taking their time to help those in need. Do not expect your posting to be answered within minutes, and when it has been replied to, please show respect to those helping out.

As a community member you alone are responsible for the postings you make in the forum channels. The forums are not a venue for the resolution of disputes between community members, companies or other persons and any such postings may be removed. Due to legal reasons the posting of quotes from private messages or e-mails from other persons are not permitted without their prior approval.

Community members are able to edit their own postings for up to 15 minutes since the posting was made. Please forward any changes to a forum moderator if you wish to have content edited after this time.

Postings that have been modified by forum moderators are marked as being edited with the moderators name included. Questions regarding edits should be directed via PM or e-mail to the moderator involved. Please include a link to the relevant post when questioning an action performed.

If you have any issues with an action a forum moderator has applied to your account or to one of your postings, or that of somebody elses, please contact the forum moderator involved directly with PM or via e-mail to receive a clearer response as to why an action was performed. You are also more than welcome to contact another forum moderator if you wish to receive additional feedback regarding the issue at hand.

User Profiles

Every community member has a profile that can be accessed via the "My Controls" link in the forum header. It is appreciated if all information can be entered honestly and accurately to be able to present ones self to the community in a better and consistent manner, e.g. "Real Name" means just that, your real name - not your company name or other information.

Usernames are used to uniquely identify ones self in the community through the use of a nickname and must not contain e-mail addresses or url addresses.

Avatars are used to further identify ones self in the community through the use of an image that is attached to ones profile. Avatars are by no means a method to promote services or businesses and should be used to promote ones self to the community in a personal manner.

Each user profile can have a signature defined that is automatically added at the bottom of each posting made. Links in signatures are not allowed except to pages within the osCommerce Network of support sites (e.g. links to our documentation, contributions, etc.) and includes URL addresses and e-mail addresses. Please use the WWW Address and E-Mail Address fields in your profile for such information. The size of signatures should not be greater than 6 lines. If your signature is considered to be long or inappropriate, a forum moderator will ask you to shorten it.

Contributions

All external solutions (Contributions) discussed in the forums must be freely available under the GNU General Public License (GPL) and must also be freely available for download at the Contributions section on the osCommerce support site. Links to contributions must be to the relevant page in the Contributions section and not to external sites.

Support for contributions must also be provided on the osCommerce Community Support Forums.

Public Behaviour

Please be respectful toward other community members, contribution authors, forum moderators, and team members. Any behavior that appears to be offensive, is not constructive, or is inappropriate will be removed with a possible ban on the accounts involved.

If you have experienced abusive behaviour from a community member please inform a forum moderator so appropriate action can be taken.
